Jorge & I won a three-night stay at Sunflower Cabin through a post on Instagram from Colorado_Kristin in December 2022.

At the time we were in the home stride of the long-distance part of our relationship with me being in Arizona and Jorge in Golden, CO. It was the thick of planning our wedding and organizing our moves. We committed our Sunflower Cabin trip as our delayed “mini honeymoon.”

We scheduled the weekend for late April hoping for warmer weather but we had a cold front come through with snow. Regardless, it was much needed to retreat into the woods for some rest and rejuvenation.

We started our journey to Sunflower Cabin from our home in Colorado Springs. Since we were on vacation, we stopped to catch the view from the Scenic Overlook up North off I25 on the way. The view is of the Colorado Springs Air Force Academy, directly across is where pilots are practicing their take-offs and landings.

We made a pit stop in Woodland Park for groceries and could feel the temperature dropping compared to our home side of the mountain. We had an early dinner and picked up some craft beer at Paradox Beer Company in Divide where the temperature continued to decline.

We were a little sad that it was too cold for us to be outside at the brewery and we plan to return in the summer to enjoy the amazing view from the outdoor patio.

From Florissant, the mountain roads were flat and easy to navigate. They were bumpy in the jeep and would be extremely bumpy in a car but still manageable. You definitely need 4WD for these roads in the winter.

We were prepared to lose reception but google maps held out all the way to the cabin on my phone. Jorge’s phone stopped updating about 2 miles from the cabin.

The cabin is private but there are enough neighbors in the area to give you a feeling of some security. There was an occasional vehicle on the road.

The view from the backyard speaks for itself: total serenity. It was slightly foggy when we arrived.

We both slept amazingly the entire weekend. The king bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable! The first night felt extremely silent compared to the typical city noise I am accustomed to. It was a welcome much-needed rest.

The backyard view was even more enjoyable in the hot tub at sunset. We loved the lights around the cabin at night.

A highlight of our stay was seeing wildlife up at our front door in the mornings. The first morning we counted 8 deer and a wild turkey in the back and side yard.

The days that it snowed we did not see any wildlife. The snow was beautiful and just enough to give us the winter feels but not enough to snow us in completely.

The wood-burning stove kept the cabin warm and made it super cozy for reading! In addition to the stove, there was a heating and AC unit to help regulate the temperature. There was plenty of firewood stocked up to last a while.

The one thing I thought of later that would have made our stay more perfect is if we had planned and brought some cookie dough to bake. Coffee, books, and freshly baked cookies in a winter white paradise!

A few things we discovered that we didn’t see ahead of our trip were options to play disk golf on the property. There were also puzzles and games in the living room perfect for a snowy day and some yoga mats tucked away in the closet.

We enjoyed the cabin so much that we did not leave! The Cabin Wi-Fi works amazingly if needed but we decided to remain off the grid by reading books, playing games, doing a puzzle, and enjoying each other’s company.

At the close of our stay, we reviewed the guest book to see what brought other guests to Sunflower Cabin. Some of the top attractions bringing people to stay here while in Colorado are the Royal Gorge, Cripple Creek Train, the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, Cave of the Winds, and the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.

Sunflower Cabin is perfect for a honeymoon! We love exploring Colorado and we can’t wait to come back and stay again!
